He jumped!!

Last night, I took the boys to swim lessons. We try to get there a little early so Grant has time to play in the little pool with the rest of the kids from the other class. I put Cole in his swim diaper and plop him in the little pool. He LOVES playing with the bigger kids.

Well, last night I took Cole to the bathroom to change him out of his wet swim trunks while Grant stayed with his class. When we came out of the bathroom, I couldn't find Grant's class. Then I saw the rest of the parents frantically waving me over to the BIG, Olympic-sized lap pool and pointing to the diving board. I FREAKED!! I couldn't believe the kids were jumping off the diving board! They all wore life-jackets, but STILL! I didn't think any of them would actually have the courage to do it. I mean, these kids are 3 years old. They surprised me, though. Even my little guy jumped off the tall diving board into the big, deep pool. I can't tell you how exciting that was for all of the parents. And, of course, I didn't have my camera with me!

These pictures are from last week.

It is finished . . .

If you are a man, close your eyes. I don't want to embarrass you.

Ladies, I'm done. Yesterday was Cole's one last hurrah. I am thinking of having a nursing bra burning party. Oh, the glorious freedom! Time to hike "the girls" up and buy a pretty new bra.

Now, I have to start watching what I eat. I hate that. I wish that God would reward those of us who nursed our children for months and months and months by allowing us to keep the wonderful 500 free calories. But, alas, I must forgo the plates of brownies. I must pass up the 4th piece of pizza. I must hand over the bread basket. It is time to try to get a curve rather than a bunch in my waistline.

Swim lessons

When Mitch started his State Farm Agency, one of his goals was to make sure he was always at his kids' sports events. We figured he would have some time to build his business and then be able to take it a little slower when our children entered the sports arena. Well, I guess we are there . . .

Grant started swim lessons last night. He goes from 6:00 - 6:40 pm and is in a class with 3 other kids his age. I asked Mitch if he would be able to peek in on his class toward the end, and he said, "I wouldn't miss it!" True to his word, Mitch met me in our driveway at 5:55 and hopped in the Jeep for the short drive to the Aquatic Center. Grant was thrilled that Daddy was going to watch him swim in the big pool.

I must say that our child is extraordinarily gifted. Well, of course I would say that! And yet, if you ever met him, you would have to agree with me. He is the absolute best at making sure his hair doesn't get any wetter than absolutely necessary. He is the fastest floating-toy grabber on the planet. He can blow into another child's face with more force than the average 3 year old. He kicks his feet with reckless abandon and turns the calm water into a raging river. My child has no fear. Well, except he doesn't like to get water in his ears or nose. Who can blame him?

At one point, the teacher had the kids grab onto the edge of the pool and move along "like a choo choo train". Grant was quickly moved to the front of the line when it became evident that if the kid in front of him didn't move faster then he would steamroller them. So, that pretty much meant that Grant was on the opposite side of the pool without any real supervision. The rest of the class was about four arms lengths away. My mommy instincts were to run over to his side of the pool, but Mitch pointed out the two moms who were already over there, plus the two lifeguards in close proximity.

Anyway, Grant survived. He jumped into the water over and over and over. He absolutely loved it and can't wait until class tomorrow night. I had a blast and plan on taking my camera this time (Mitch can't believe I forgot it last night!). Mitch shared in the delight of watching our oldest son in his element while cuddling his younger son on his shoulder. It was one of those memorable moments and family bonding events. I can't wait to do it again!

Does my husband know that I feed his children Hummus?

A few weeks back, I went to a friend's house for a scrapbooking party. (Remember the totally cute "Simply Adorable" layouts?) She served hummus. I have always been intrigued by hummus, but not really brave enough to try it. Well, the truth is that I don't really run with the "hummus crowd". We are more the "chips and dip" variety. I tasted Sarah's hummus and decided to try to make some myself.

The next morning, I pulled out the can of garbanzo beans that had been sitting in my pantry for years and found a hummus recipe on allrecipes.com. I whipped up a batch of hummus and fed it to my children.

Grant loved it! Cole wanted me to spoon-feed him the stuff. Hee hee!

Since that initial launch into the hummus world, I have made hummus 4 times. Last night, I made it for Mitch. He loved it.

10 years ago, I would not have guessed that I would be feeding my family hummus, but here I am!

(So, why did I post this little tid-bit? I just like to say "hummus", even if I am just talking to myself!)
