new art

I bought new art for my family room today. I am super excited! I think it will change the look of the whole room! It still needs to be hung (a Mitch job) about 3 or 4 inches up so the dumb speaker isn't so noticeable. I need to get some more stuff for the mantle. I put the purple candle holders and blue candle thingy up there just to get a feel for colors. They are WAY too small to put on my mantle. It would just look cluttered. I REALLY like the blue. What do you think? Maybe I will look for a tall glass vase thingy in the same blues.

So, the great thing is that I have more colors to pull from in my decorating. I felt like I was in such a rut before. Now, I can use the blues or even oranges or bright greens!! My next big search will be for new curtains (most likely) and throw pillows (definitely). I might go with a less daunting color for my curtains this time. Less heavy. I have to see what is out there. Maybe the red curtains will find their way into the living room.

Get this (this is so great): You know how I bought that table a while back, then on the morning it was to be delivered I received a phone call about a huge crack down the middle? Well, I canceled the order, got my money back, and started the search for a new table all over again. This morning the whole family headed out to Macy's to see a table I had been contemplating. Mitch thought it was way too expensive, plus there were a couple of things about it that bugged us. We went to two more furniture stores and just couldn't find one that we really liked. Finally, we decided to drive all the way up to Washington Square to look at the first table I had purchased. After a couple of meltdowns (Cole's and mine - the newly fixed A/C didn't work . . . ) we finally made it to the store. We walked in (sleeping Grant draped over Mitch's shoulder, sleeping Cole snuggled in his too-small infant carrier) and I walked right over to the table. Mitch loved it and the price was right. In fact, it was about $40 cheaper and the sales lady who sold me the table the first time threw in delivery for free. We saved $100 off our first purchase price (which was WAY low to begin with!). The table will be delivered in about 2 weeks.

So, in about a month, my whole house will look different! Come over for a visit!!

  1. So I have a great idea of what you can put with that picture. When I come over to pick up my new catalog I will bring the pic.

  2. Hi, I found your blog--tell me when you check out mine--Ok--I LOVE your new art...where did you find it? The colors are great! And...where did you end up finding your table--which table is it? Did you get it yet?

We just bought a new table--ordered it from Pottery Barn after Thanksgiving and had it before Christmas--(that was so great!) I had found a huge, $200 table at Cost Plus World Market, but when Jim came to see it, he showed me how it wasn't practical the way it was designed. So, I told him I knew where there was a really great table, but it was a lot more expensive. I was shocked when he said we could go look at it...long story short...he loved it...so we ordered it...(it helped that it was on sale at the time)...it is the chestnut Conrad table...then we got unfinished rustic ladderback chairs at Keith Brown's in Salem, and Jim finished them in Chestnut stain to match the table. We both love it and it is furniture that will be passed down many generations, so that is cool...the table we had many family dinners at, and the table we did homeschool lessons at...
