It's a paper layout. From me.

Have you ever been given a piece of paper and a couple of embellishments and then been asked to be creative? What if those items were baby boy colors, but your pictures were all in primary colors? Uh, what if the papers didn't really match the embellishments? Or, if there was a distinct stripe of PINK running through a couple of those embellishments? What would you do?

Oh, stew for a while. Get frustrated. Then get over it and get creative, right?

A couple of the moms from Grant's kindergarten class are putting together an album for the teacher. One of the moms bought an album kit, complete with papers and embellishments. Great idea, right? Except for the colors, but oh well. I totally understand why they bought the kit. There are a lot of moms out there who would be totally intimidated by the idea of putting together a page. Especially considering that we know that those two moms are REAL scrapbookers. You know, they actually know what they are doing. They do more than just slap stickers on a page full of shaped pictures. (Gosh, did that sound snotty?)

Anyway, Renee and Wendee are REAL scrapbookers, and I know that they expect something nice coming from me. Oh, the pressure! Baby boy colors! Yellow, purpleish, baby blue, lime green and pink. Except the papers don't have the baby blue or the pink. They are just blue and yellow. So, how do I get all of those things onto a page, and yet try to follow basic design principles (gallon, quart, pint). I gotta tell you that my stomach is turning just thinking about the stress of working with pastels . . . and yet, I did it.

The pink became red (at least in my mind) and I grounded it all in navy blue. I can live with this layout. I plan to recreate it for myself using MY KIND OF COLORS, which, of course, would be bright and exciting!!

In the meantime, I feel pretty good about this layout. I feel like one of those rockstars from Creating Keepsakes magazine who take 4 products and create something beautiful. Now, I understand how hard that is!!

Speaking of CK, I totally lifted this layout from Kim Arnold (June 2009, pg. 60). Yeah, hers is cuter, but then she was working with my kind of colors!! LOL!

  4. Wow that is a great layout for someone who doesn't like the colours. Adding the navy in really pulled it all together.

I'm doing the customizing blog course with you... just popping in to say Hi.

  5. How did I miss this one? You did a great job with colors you don't necessarily like! But then you could do great with anything, I'll bet!
